About Wolfgang Burst

I’m a jazz pianist, composer, and educator based in Austin, Texas. Over the years, I’ve helped students of all ages find their voice through music—whether that means learning their favorite songs, writing original compositions, or improvising freely at the keys.

I hold an Associate Degree in Music Composition and am currently studying Analytics online at Northeastern University. I also served six years in the Army National Guard—an experience that taught me discipline, adaptability, and a deep appreciation for structure and growth. And yes, I’m recently engaged!

My music journey has taken me from the local stage to international classrooms, including a summer semester studying Afro-Cuban music in Havana, Cuba. I’ve studied jazz piano under world-class musicians and draw from years of real-world experience performing and producing across genres like jazz, gospel, and R&B.

My lessons blend structure and spontaneity, rooted in curiosity, joy, and musical expression. Whether you're just starting out or looking to level up, I'm here to guide you with a personalized and meaningful approach.

Outside of teaching, I compose and perform my own music and run The Art Newsletter, a creative platform I co-founded to support young artists across the globe.

I’m loving all of this, but how do lessons work?

FAQs…

How Does It Work?

Local (Austin Area) Clients can contact me to schedule in-person classes that take place in East Austin at 1010 E 10th St, Austin, TX 78702. Current In Person lesson hours are from 10am-2pm. For everyone else, our lessons are via Zoom or Google Meet. All students will start by evaluating their goals and then using an individualized approach to target the area that each learner needs to improve on. Online students will use various camera angles and an onscreen live note and chord playback to help ensure each student has full awareness of proper technique and notes. Of course, practicing is the biggest key to success in music. In addition to the piano practice material, I assign off the piano homework to help each student gain a holistic approach to music.

What Do I Need?

The only main requirements for our online lessons are access to a piano and a computer with a webcam that can run Zoom or Google Meet. In addition, it can help to have a second camera (a phone usually works) set on a tripod facing directly toward or above the piano keys. Having this second angle aids me in being able to see precisely what you are playing. I provide all materials for in person lessons.

How Often Should I Take Lessons?

Recommend lesson frequency can vary depending on each learner. But as a general rule, every week is best for continued progress in piano. This is, of course, in conjunction with focused and dedicated daily practice.

How Do I Book a Lesson?
